Dicks Sporting Goods, Corporate HQ in Coreopolis, PA (suburb of Pittsburgh) was the WORST place I have ever worked. A sports company that operates in a very unsportsmanlike manner. As is true for most companies, there were some wonderful colleagues and, even, pockets of fine Directors (teeny tine pockets, perhaps only A POCKET, but still.) The overarching corporate culture is: mean, hierarchical and inefficient.
Back in December they laid off employees for brands/divisions which were not longer getting support and some people had just been hired for the roles. Imagine leaving a previous job to start a new opportunity, to be fired a month later because the brand is no more. Wheres the leadership in that? Sales reps with no experience, given roles because they are family. Designers being given new brand responsibilities, then finding out in the news that the brand belongs to another company, but no one told them, so eventually laid off.
3 months post WFH in March, 85% of employees were laid off.
I 1000% agree with you, as I’ve seen companies listed on here that I would still seek opportunities with, if given.Everyone isn’t built for everything, however its a forum.
Adjmi… the worst. When I resigned from one of their divisions, the owner called me into his office to yell at me and insult me… he told me “designers are a dime a dozen” but then had one of his guys follow me to see who my next employer was.
Not surprised!! Interviewed there back when I was entry level and was told in the interview that if hired I’d be the “person getting the pizza” and “the lowest on the totem pole.” Wasn’t upset when I didn’t hear back.
TORY BURCH. They’ll pay you well so you can rationalize the toxic environment and awful management. HR regularly dismisses complaints against high level execs and gaslights the complainant. There’s also no diversity in the office.
Not surprised to hear about Adjmi Apparel Group on here. I have not worked there myself but it confirms the horror stories I’ve heard from multiple coworkers in the industry who worked there in the past.
I’m in New York City, and I’ve worked for a bunch of Syrian companies. They all live in Brooklyn and Dale, NJ. They all gossip about their employees. They treat women like garbage. Examples of sexism I endured: I was made to travel coach to China while my male coworkers flew business class. I was fired at 6 months pregnant - I was told “now you can stay home with the baby”, “a women’s place is at home with the baby”. When I said I would speak to an employment attorney first before signing any exit paperwork - I was physically threatened and basically thrown out of the office without being able to get my personal possessions other than my purse." Same company, prior to pregnancy, I was sexually assaulted by my boss at a Vegas shoe show." In China, I was forced to go to dinner at the Karaoke rooms with female prostitutes - felt beyond uncomfortable. The trauma we endure in the fashion industry is completely unacceptable. I sell real estate now, and freelance design on the side. Would love to know if a good fashion/footwear company, where you are treated with respect, even exists.
I was waiting for someone to mention Haddad-I personally never worked there, interviewed before. Heard from many friends how awful it is there and yes, complete revolving door. If you constantly see job ads for a company its because people do not stay there.
-So any small mistakes you make can be the opportunity for other departments to attack you/your team on a group email.
-Yelling will sometimes occur but that can be any place really.
-My boss was concentrated on work flow and not my growth as a technical designer.
-My boss would also criticize harshly (just like the other bosses in other departments) on my mistakes instead of helping me with my growth.
-Was told that the boss from another tech design division had made rude comments about me when I left.
-Was told by another colleague what her pay was and compared it to how my starting pay for full-time was. They were probably losing a lot of money and not giving any new employees the salary they deserve.
There is a few more I have but in general it’s just a shady place and it has never changed nor may it ever will. I had already told HR my issues on my exit interview but I don’t see them fixing it. You can find more reviews on GD. As for advice, I recommend you prepare for a therapist if you can afford it during your employment.
We created a Company Review page for Tory Burch. When you get a chance, it would be great if we could get you to rate Tory Burch. Feel free to add comments on their company review page too.
RL in New York (design) is filled with people that have been there for years. I know many. They have some gripes…but I know of no real hate for the work place.
@Shooz Jeez what hell, this is so upsetting to hear. I am so sorry this happened. Ugh this is so unfair, soo much abuse. There must be something we can do!
Seriously?? What if you’re poor and borrowed the clothes from a friend just for the interview? I mean “dress to impress” or “dress for the job you want” is interview attire. That is so rude and appalling. I would have just gotten up and left immediately. To be judged by your clothes in an interview? WOW. Just WOW…
