Hi Fashion Friends!
Happy New Year! Sorry in advance if this is not the right place to post. I will not be receiving a hiring bonus but my NYC based company is seeking an associate level cut and sew knits designer.
This is a very CAD heavy position as designs are primarily sold through cad presentations rather than physical garments. If you are a CAD artist, have a graphics background or are very comfortable in adobe illustrator, photoshop and have knowledge of sewing construction and pattern making - this could be a good fit!
Our ethos is to “work smarter, not harder” so people who love keyboard shortcuts, are quick to pick up systems and workflow, find ways to work efficiently and can interpret design direction easily are key.
The Real Stuff - No company is perfect obviously so just want to keep it real:
THE PROS:
- If you love to learn and share, there isn’t any gatekeeping on the design team - its very collaborative
- Hours are quite standard and you will never be pressured to work past 6pm (we try to work efficiently so we can get out by 5)
- Small company, so you efforts will be noticed and designs are realized pretty quickly
- Design team is not required to communicate with factories (we have production teams for that)
- You will wear many hats - if you’re driven, you can grow your skillset very quickly. Some days you will be designing screenprints, doing CAD flats/floats, reviewing strike offs/lab dips, managing seasonal colors, designing packaging, doing market research etc. etc.
- Salary is competitive in the industry - good work is noticed and rewarded
- WFH fridays in the summer and on occasional need basis.
THE CONS:
- Design wise, we cater to the entry level price point and tend to chase trends. You have to be OK with interpreting buyer direction and interpreting styles to be more cost effective.
- It is fast paced - and management expects CAD turn arounds quickly
- You will be wearing many hats and will be switching between and juggling many projects based on priority
- You must be ok working within specific design parameters and taking direction, essentially its not the most creative role
- Management is oldschool and there is pushback introducing new tech
- Not much of a culture - people work and go home to their lives
if you read all that and are still interested, message me! or email: Lintypockets@gmail.com with a resume
Thanks!
