Are you afraid of HR?
HR is there to protect the company, not the employee. HR team members are trained not to develop relationships with employees in order to keep a professional distance and avoid the appearance of favoritism. Some companies have a policy of moving HR or “Talent Acquisition” people to other positions after about 2 years to maintain neutrality.

I wouldn’t call it fear or even respect, more like carefully concealed disdain. I’ve learned to always watch my back. I’ve run across some particularly mean girl HR “professionals” throughout my career and footwear is an extremely small world. If you tick off the wrong person your career is over.
