Hey guys!
So I’ve been living in Los Angeles for 10 years. I’ve worked this entire time as a fashion designer at companies small and large. I started in DTLA but all the rest of my jobs have been outside of that area.
I feel SO disconnected from any creative fashion scene here. Is there one?!?
Most of my previous co-workers have left the industry either from burn out or to have babies. Some have transitioned from design into more managerial or production roles. I have a few contacts that are still in the industry, but I don’t really know what they are up to.
I recently visited Savannah, GA which is where I went to school. The town is full of cute little shops with locally made designer items. 3 shops I went into had pattern tables, patterns hanging everywhere, and someone actively working on a sewing machine. Everything felt so creative and I was super inspired. Where can I find this same vibe in Los Angeles?
I’ve literally never been to a fashion show in LA, or an art show, or had any of my fashion co-workers talk to me about their personal projects. It feels all so corporate and boring.
I want to feel connected to other creative people and the industry as a whole!
