I have gotten jobs thru recruiters, but I have a specialized skill set. Ageism is real, it is hard to land a job in fashion if you are over 40. Be nice to recruiters so your name/ skills will be familiar to them when a good opening comes in, but you are more likely to land something by a referral from your own network, or get freelance work.

I am confused why these fashion recruiters exist here in nyc? No other industry maybe it jobs require all these recruiters? They are useless. I’ve had recruiters negotiate my rate down due to their fee it’s like they are recruiting in an are where there’s tons of talent and if they offer a hourly rate they are taking a percentage so why don’t companies just find freelancers w/o these agents. Yes they are useless.
