Freelancers open to sharing hourly rate?

Oh I completely agree that it should be hourly rate PLUS 20% to account for healthcare, retirement, time off etc but not all companies will pay to that level.

Then you don’t work for them. I tell them that by hiring me they get more a more experienced hire than a staffing agency, which I think is true for just about anyone freelancing . Using the agencies is great for entry level, but if you plan to stay freelance it’s a dead end, salary wise and also with the no contact agreement you sign, which limits your ability to market yourself. Marketing is key!

Absolutely correct! one must account for your own overhead and expenses, (rent/mortgage, taxes, insurance, utilities, incl. phone, stationery supplies and computer supplies, etc…) add that onto your calculated hourly rate and if you can cushion it some to cover the lag times and marketing in between gigs!
